Adolescent Psychotherapy (12 – 18 Years)
Amanda utilises an integrative and humanistic approach when working therapeutically with adolescents. Expressive arts, creative activities, sandtray therapy, talk therapy, mindfulness among others are used to help adolescents explore and understand their feelings. The specific approach will depend on the individual circumstances and needs of the teenager. The aim of adolescent psychotherapy at Children’s Therapy Killaloe is to help the young person to manage and cope with social and emotional challenges that may arise during the teenage years.
The process involves an initial intake with both the parents and adolescent together, to explore family history, parenting style, values, strengths and the reason for referral. This is followed by a parent intake session, during which the therapist can offer guidance and support to better understand and support their teenager while the teenager attends therapy. The teenager will then be offered one-to-one confidential sessions during which they can explore and figure out what is challenging for them.
